Mid-Year Moodboard: The Interior Trends Going Viral in 2025

Curated calm, cutecore confidence and a return to romance. These are the moods shaping interiors in 2025.

Halfway through the year, the message is clear. We are craving softness, sentiment and soul. Online trends are no longer fleeting moments. They are influencing how we shape our spaces in ways that are tactile, thoughtful and deeply personal. Behind the beauty lies a shift in mindset: a collective pull towards comfort, creativity and a quieter pace of living.

From forest floor minimalism to playful cuteness, from brooding libraries to homes designed around art, the interiors of today are anything but superficial. They reflect a desire for meaningful living, expressive detail and design that resonates. Whether you are drawn to curated stillness or nostalgic charm, here are four of the most influential movements right now and how to bring them into your own home with intention and elegance.

Mushroom Interiors: Quiet Luxury Inspired by the Forest Floor

Mushroom coffee may be trending, but it is the earthy, enveloping aesthetic behind it that is making its way into our interiors. This is not simply a colour moment; it is a sensory retreat. Mushroom interiors reflect a yearning to slow down, breathe deeply and surround ourselves with gentle, grounding materials.

The palette sits between nature and neutrality; think soft taupes, weathered greys, stone browns and creamy mushroom tones. It is elegant, warm and inviting. Less stark than white, more soulful than beige. When paired with rich textures and tonal layers, it creates a space that soothes without ever feeling bland.

Bring the look to life:

Begin with paint in oyster, porcini or portobello tones. These set a calming foundation that feels cocooning and timeless. Introduce textures like boucle, mohair and brushed linen for depth. A cotton velvet headboard in truffle adds a touch of quiet indulgence. Choose lighting with care, mushroom-shaped lamps in frosted glass or sculptural ceramic cast a warm, ambient glow. Curved armchairs, clay-hued ceramics and abstract prints in earthy shades add gentle rhythm. Complete the story with natural stone and aged brass for a space that feels both grounded and graceful.

Labubu Interiors: A Confident Take on Grown-Up Cutecore

It might begin with a collectible character from Japan, but the spirit of Labubu has found its way into high-end interiors. It speaks to something deeper, a longing for lightness, joy and emotional connection. This is cutecore reimagined for the discerning home.

At its heart, this trend celebrates individuality and a sense of play. It is quirky, soft and a little surreal, but always with purpose. Think of it as design with a wink.

Make cutecore work for you:
Play with sorbet shades
Set your base in warm whites or soft oat, then introduce colour with restraint. Powder-pink velvet cushions, a lavender vase or a peach-toned chair bring charm without chaos. For a bold twist, paint an internal door in citrus or sherbet, just enough colour to spark joy.

Curate with confidence
Kitsch becomes chic when treated like art. Display plush figurines or cartoon ceramics under glass domes or on Perspex plinths. The key is to edit, one playful vignette per room is more than enough. Keep surrounding materials rich and refined, such as walnut, marble or antiqued gold.

Balance your patterns
Add a scalloped rug or a doodled cushion to an otherwise classic room. Playful elements shine best when grounded by sophisticated materials, think linen, wool or reclaimed timber.

Library Spaces: Romance, Ritual and a Slower Kind of Luxury

In a world driven by screens and speed, there is a growing desire for stillness. The return of the home library, or at least the feeling of one, taps into that yearning. Whether it is an entire book wall or a quiet reading corner, these spaces bring depth, ritual and a touch of magic.

There is something innately romantic about a library. The warm glow of a lamp, the whisper of pages, the sense of retreat. In luxury design, that atmosphere is achieved through rich materials, thoughtful details and a certain kind of intimacy.

Create your own sanctuary:

Choose a chair or chaise that is not only beautiful but truly comfortable, something you can sink into. Place it beside a lamp with a warm glow, ideally with a dimmer. Position your nook near a window if possible, then layer in lighting for evenings. Add built in custom shelving and/or a small table for your current reads, a thick rug underfoot and art that inspires quiet thought. The space should feel private, purposeful and softly layered.

Living with Art: Homes That Honour the Creative Spirit

One of the most meaningful shifts I have seen in recent years is the rise of art-focused interiors. Not simply placing art in a room, but designing the room around the art itself.

Many of my clients are collectors or passionate enthusiasts, and they want their homes to reflect that. Art is no longer an afterthought; it is the beginning of the brief. And rightly so. Because when you live with art, it becomes part of the daily rhythm. It brings emotion, intrigue and layers of story into the home.

Designing with art in mind:

Everything changes, the lighting, the surfaces, the flow. I will often specify gallery-style track lighting or discreet picture lights to ensure each piece is properly seen. Sculptures may require their own moments, with negative space or purpose-built niches. Sometimes, wall panelling is broken to frame a canvas with intent.

In a recent project, we transformed a long entrance hall into a private gallery. Floating partitions, textured walls and a dramatic lighting plan turned the space into something that feels more boutique museum than corridor. And yet it remains entirely liveable. That balance is where the magic lies.

Designing for art takes subtlety. It is about creating an environment that uplifts the work without overpowering it. This is more than a trend, it is a mindset. In luxury interiors, art is no longer a finishing touch. It is the main character.
